ENSURING LOCAL PASSENGERS AND RESIDENTS HAVE ACCURATE AND TIMELY INFORMATION.

The £80m project is part of a £137m investment and will see the VolkerRailStory JV undertake extensive enhancement works to remove several bottlenecks along the route to improve reliability, increase passenger services and aid in freight movements.

The Hope Valley Capacity Scheme forms part of the government’s commitment to upgrade the rail network across the North of England, and meet future passenger demands.

The VolkerRailStory joint venture has taken a step forward in its commitment to keep local residents updated on the Hope Valley Railway Upgrade project, by installing a digital noticeboard on the platform at Dore & Totley station.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY ENABLES US TO SHARE IN A WAY THAT AVOIDS CONFUSION AND CONTRADICTION

The touch screen board offers up-to-date information on the Hope Valley Railway Upgrade, with various sections providing an overview of construction work, changes to train journeys and information about station car park closures. The digital noticeboard is updated regularly, to ensure local passengers and residents have accurate and timely information.

This is the first time that both VolkerRail and Story Contracting have used a digital signage to communicate with local communities. This follows on from other innovative communication methods used by the VolkerRailStory team, including a digital community app, along with more traditional methods, such as quarterly in-person community information events, letter drops, static noticeboards and stakeholder meetings.

“The use of the digital noticeboard is a great initiative that allows us to provide up-to-date information to the communities that are directly affected by our works.

“This type of controlled digital technology enables us to communicate and share in a way that avoids confusion and contradiction, to provide clarity on the work we are undertaking at Dore & Totley station, and the progress of the Hope Valley scheme more widely.”
